Craft beer and games. The two together caught my attention when I was looking for gaming articles. Bozeman, and Montana in general, have lots of microbreweries which is another reason this article was a fun read. Noticing that beer itself is a social thing, Cheryl Harrison sought to create a blend of both games and beer. She went on to create Beers & Board Games Club in Columbus, Ohio. This venture of hers proved to be extremely successful. Every month members of the club come together to play games and drink beer, something that should totally happen in Bozeman. The article also talks about a kickstarter that was created to raise funds for “Dungeons & Drafts”. They exceeded their fundraising goal and have had immense success.
Dungeons and Drafts is described as featuring, “an extensive board game library and video games, as well as a menu of Medieval and Old-English themed foods.” Those who play the game get to enjoy both playing the game and experiencing fine craft beers, food, and community. The pub that Dungeons and Drafts takes place in even tries to recreate a medieval setting to compliment the game’s theme. A board game was also created just from the basis of craft brewing. Adam Rehberg started the board game Brewin’ USA, a game in which players compete to have the best brewery in the nation. Another game that was mentioned in the article, called Thinking & Drinking, sets up a social dialogue between players about various topics. It was great to read about the incorporation of games into night life places such as bars or pubs. Pairing games with pizza is good, but pairing it with beer is even better.
